Recently, RGIS Healthcare was invited to present at one of our partner's national sales meeting. The three-hour session began with a roundtable discussion with the team that focuses on providing a portfolio of solutions to alternate site care providers and really great insight was shared by all.
In the afternoon session, RGIS Healthcare presented to the team that focuses on long-term care pharmacies. As you know with week-long meetings, the presentation slot right after lunch and prior to the close of the day can be tough. We decided to turn the room around and show the long-term care team the "sweet side of inventory."
Step 1 – Everyone was given a cup of 15 M&M's
Step 2 – Using the additional supplies provided (pen and paper) we asked them to take inventory
Step 3 – Share your results
RESULTS – We had a wide range of inventory results reported. One team member stated that he had 15. Another said that she had 5 blue, 4 red, 2 brown, 4 yellow. Someone took inventory by size - 6 small ones, 6 medium ones and 3 big ones. Someone else came up with 4 milk chocolate and 11 peanuts, and someone asked, "what if I ate mine?"
Each person had the exact same assortment of M&M's but interpreted how to take inventory in their own way. RGIS Healthcare utilizes a series of defined best practices for programs, processes and procedures that facilitate a consistent process.
The exercise was fun, tasted great and we all learned a lesson that standard practices in inventory taking bring about accurate, reliable and efficient results.
