Scalable Inventory Transformation for Agricultural Seed Specialist
An agricultural seed specialist selected RGIS to deliver a custom-built, adaptable inventory system that could meet the unique technical and operational demands of the agricultural seed industry.
CHALLENGE
Following a large-scale acquisition, an agricultural seed specialist needed to sort and audit extensive stock across its warehouse. Internally, the seed specialist lacked the resources, experience, and digital tools to perform such an inventory at scale and within the tight timeframe required.
Unfamiliar with third-party inventory specialists, the agricultural seed specialist initially did not know a full-service, end-to-end solution like RGIS existed. They required:
- Sorting and counting of palletized seed stocks.
- Inventory linked to specific production years and locations.
- Integration of labelling and packaging data.
- Minimal disruption to ongoing warehouse operations.
WHY RGIS?
RGIS quickly demonstrated its suitability during initial consultations. The ability to combine hardware, software, and people-power into a complete inventory solution set us apart.
OUR SOLUTION
The RGIS team delivered a fully integrated inventory project using bespoke digital tools and software:
- Custom IT Development: RGIS designed and tested software solutions aligned with the agricultural seed specialist’s systems, enabling inventory data to be linked by location and production year.
- On-Site Testing & Adjustments: Initial development and testing were completed in partnership with the client, allowing adaptations to be made in real time.
- Timeframe:
- 5 hours of initial discussions.
- 15 hours of IT development and test phase.
- 35 days of active counting.
- All work completed during standard working hours.
- Inventory Count Scope: 350 pallets (12,000 Bacs) | 750,000 SKUs | Over 42.5 million grams in product volume.
RESULTS
- Immediate Impact: The inventory project grew beyond its original scope due to RGIS’s success; the agricultural seed specialist expanded the task to include all warehouse stock.
- Accuracy Validated in Real-Time: Stock counts were verified live by the customer throughout the event.
- Exceeded Expectations: The customer set clearer goals only after witnessing RGIS tools in action.
- Knowledge Gained: The agricultural seed specialist learned that inventory can be reliably outsourced to experienced partners with the right technology and know-how.
CONCLUSION
The agricultural seed specialist was highly impressed with RGIS’s professionalism, scalability, and adaptability. They have already confirmed plans to use RGIS again to manage inventory during the opening of a new warehouse. Discussions are also underway to extend services to other countries where the seed specialist operates.
This project demonstrates how RGIS tailored support can turn a one-off inventory event into a long-term partnership – even with a customer who initially didn’t know such services existed.
